Advising Committee of the IYMS
After studying music & education I became a high school music teacher in Scotland, my home country.
Eight years later I took a turn towards business & worked with my husband in the restaurant and hotel trade.
On returning to teaching in 1990 I brought new skills, so, in addition to teaching music I ran a programme of social & vocational skills for pupils from age 14., preparing them for the world of work. At this time I also did work for the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
In 1999 I was offered the opportunity to move into Arts Project management with a remit of extending and enhancing the curriculum across all art forms, including an innovative Screen School project which targeted both primary & high school pupils.
In 2007 I secured funding from Scottish Screen for a three year Moving Image Education project which encouraged collaborative learning & broadened the horizons of both teachers & pupils.
After meeting Evelyn while on a study trip to LA in September 2001 , I was committed to raising awareness of her dream of forming IYMS.
6 Scottish pupils from 3 South Lanarkshire Schools (including 2 deaf students) and 3 staff participated in the 1st IYMS in LA. South Lanarkshire pupils have also participated in Sydney, Australia and in Belgrade, Serbia.
Now retired, I still value the international friendships my involvement with the IYMS family has brought & I am delighted to be included in Advisory Committee for IYMS!
